Outdoor activities

Vancouver is a 365 holiday resort. During the winter it rains, there is less than 1 week under 0° C. But the mountains are covered in snow. At 40 minutes by public transportation there is Groose Mountain and at 1.5 hours, Whistler, a Olympic resort.

During the summer, the activities are so numerous, that I need to use categories:

Water

Paddling is very popular, I am afraid it might be bad for the back

All around the downtown peninsula there are yachts harbors. Too many are with engine.

The beaches are amazing, at least for one who loves the Belgian ones.

the beaches are very diverse: volleyball, more crowded,  more secluded. There is one for nudist where vendors shout: beer, marijuana, sun flower seeds. This is what I heard

the ocean water is pretty cold .. 17°. There are several big swimming pools (150 meters) next to the ocean

kitesurfing is pretty limited due to the lack of wind, but at 40 minutes there is a place in the north, and one in the south of the city. Still, one day I saw a couple of kites.

I would say that kayak is the most popular water sport

There are even bigger versions of kayak, called Dragons, and there are several contests during the summer

Another category of sports is linked to ground transportation: bikes, rollers, jogging.

Skateboard is so popular that I saw baby buggies with a pad on a wheel for the older one to stand as on a skate.

In the Groose Mountain, there are a lot of joggers. Paragliding is not for the beginners (check the colors of the kite!! just as our hammock)
