We are walking in Victoria in the waterfront. It is late to watch the sunset and we need to find a place where to set the hammock. I want to shoot a last photo, but a guy is in the middle. I don’t mind, anyway it’s dark.
We take the backpacks, and the same guy drops his bike in our way. So, what could we do? only to start to speaking with him! I can see that the dark is coming, but what an energy ! I agree with Emilie to find later where we’ll sleep, and now to ride the wave.
Mike is volunteer for an NGO to stop Harper, the PM of Canada. He proposed to join him for a meeting where the new maire, a woman leader, holds a conference. Actually lots of people, beer, casual atmosphere on a big terrace.
One of his friend join us. After that, we make the circle of peace in a small piazzetta. My mind is overwhelmed by so interesting information: Mike wants to develop a robot for agriculture, he is very invested in the offgrid movement. He tells us about an anarchist conference this week end. After talking during hours, he takes us to the park where we can camp safely.
Next morning, we are wake up by dozen of peacocks! We speak with our neighbours. One was business consultant and travelled a lot in France. He has a very good bike and pro equipment, but is living in the park. He gives us some advices where we can get free meal.
There is a couple of old hippies from Quebec. They tell us the secrets of homeless life: where are free showers, free meals, internet. We ask ourselves how much of their lifestyle is by necessity and how much volunteer.
During the week end, we went to the anarchist conference, thanks to Mike.
In the evening we visited him and his partner, Julia, and the 4 years old boy, Oliver. I’ve never seen a kid to play so well football, he hits very powerfully the ball. Very smart, not wise in the good sense.
We connected so quickly with this family, lots of laughs. We passed just to leave some luggage, but we could not resist their invitation to spend the night at their place, and the next one, and the next one, and the … 5th one.
