We met Eduardo at the party in the first night in Guadalajara. He practice taekwondo and is architect. The idea of this sport is to be like the water, to be very adaptive, very flexible, but calm. In architecture is to mule on the client needs, to understand him very well, and then to create for him. Kary loves her job. She studied psychology, now she is teacher and work with children, some of them have disabilities: it’s the best job in the world, according to her.
A friend of Eduardo had an exam at taekwondo. In the beginning I got the adrenaline and the regret that I didn’t want to do karate as a kid. But when I saw how frequently someone lays down, and one was out for several minutes … I still prefer the chess.
On the way, they let us try the camote, a type of tuber, with a salsa de pimenta.
Later they took us to a restaurant in a sports complex belonging to the University of Guadalajara.
We had a real brunch, and talked for hours. We tasted the huitlacoche, a mushroom growing on the corn. Eduardo talked about the complex of Mexicans about their history. Malinche was the interpreter and mistress of Cortez. She helped him to conquest so easily the Mayan Empire. She is the first mezcla/mix. The Spaniards conquered the native women. This is the cause that makes Mexican reluctant to use their native inheritance. And actually it was the smallpox which kneed these civilisations.
After chatting like old friends, we enter the car. Kary is looking for her water bottle. She cannot find it. Actually we entered in another car, which is identical to Eduardo’s!
We visited the round pyramides at Guachimontones.
It was amazing to climb one, which isn’t restored, but which has a cleared a little track through the bushes and woods.
Visiting the cliff dwellings in Mesa Verde, I was thinking what an experience would be to have augmented reality, so to be able to watch on the smartphone an overlapped movie with natives doing the daily activities. And to taste their food and drink.
At the exit from the site, we enjoyed some pre-hispanics drinks (tejüino, made from corn, aguamiel, from cactus, delicious!), sitting next to some Coca-cola chairs. Drinking these, I cannot understand how we could involute so much. The only explanation might be that these drinks are good maximum one day after preparation, while Coke … Several years.
The last stop on the way back was at one of his projects: a small house built on a terrain at 15 minutes from the city, with a 270° view on a protected forest. It was amazing to lay back on the terrace and watch the sky full of stars. Cost ? 50.000$ !
