Tulum

IMG_8201We arrive at Isaak, our couchsurfing host from Tulum, late in the night. He is guide for taking a very strong hallucinogenic mushroom. The trip takes only ten minutes ! I postponed the experience. Apparently it’s like a condensed of several years of psychotherapy. There is the risk to uncover some unconscious big problems, so if I am happy, why to stir the water of the lake ?

Next morning we go to the archaeological site of Tulum.

Group photo of Y generaton, born in the era of remote control. It’s the first day with the car. After we close all the doors, Emilie realizes that she left the keys inside.  Only in Mexico I’ve got a car without centralized system. We arrange someone to come in 3 hours, when we finish visiting the site.

On the way to the entrance, a guide starts to speak with us. Manuel loves speaking French. And he is pretty pissed by his group of 10 people. He invites us to join them, free of charge !

The site contains a dozen of villas and temples where about 200 very rich people were living. A villa was built over a cenote (see the post about cenotes, to know what it is…)

After the normal tour, Manuel asks to his group who has an question. There was only one: where is the exit ? So Manuel remains only with us and we can have a nice talk.

Tulum was built in the period of decadence, 200 years before Cortez saw this settlement from his gallion on the way from Cuba. We revived this experience. We walked to the ocean.

This is the best way to see an archaeological site !

When we came back, someone from the gas station tried to help us to open the car door for almost an hour. Finally he tells us to call a professional, but he continues. The same second the professional opened one door, our guy opened the other door. So I have to pay him as well. With the professional who spent 10 seconds, I try to negotiate. But he tells me that the other guy he did something wrong, so that the door got open but it can not be closed any more. So we go to his repairing shop …. We spent like this 2 hours. I couldn’t find any photo with Emilie smiling.

In the afternoon we take Isaak and his Basque friend, Laura, to go to the Biosphera. But it’s late and the road is very bad. So we change the plan and go to a cenote which is on the same road.

He have to pass some mangroves to get to the cenote. No crocodile passed our way.Amazing, it’s free and there is nobody !

The perfect way to finish an imperfect day.
