We arrived late in the night at Fernandino, our couchsurfer in Merida. He showed us his huge villa, with an very large garden, with a swimming pool and a columns at the entrance. Maybe he is in a drug Cartel ?!
All parts of Mexico are ruled by one cartel. The border fluctuates by the blood streams. But this is another world, like the one of politicians. The biggest Cartel is the government, which makes peace with a group of cartels, and war with the others and it gets its big share. Merida is the Nirvana of cartel people. Here live their families. They made a non aggression pact, so here the criminality here is 0 . And the city is very rich.
Fernandino has a company which makes hats and and he has 4 other villas which he rents to international students. He organizes for them trips to visit Mexico, parties, he manages the bureaucratic stuff, in one word he hosts international students. Because he likes it so much, he hosts as well couchsurfers, almost every day.
There are some of his friends. One started 3 years ago a company, Clatier, which produces chocolate. Another started a company which installs smart-home systems. It’s such a density of entrepreneurs ! Do you know that Mexico is the 6th producer of electronics, the biggest car producer in N&S America?
It’s late, but he makes the tour of the city in the car, and then grab a beer in the city.
