Puerto Morelos is an expanding village between very touristic places: Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. It has a very good position, because it is close to one of the best coral reef regions in Mexico, and at few kilometers far from the cenote’s route, see the post.

We took our friend Caro from the airport in Cancun and landed all three at Mariana, from couchsurfing. She proved a lot of patience with us. Mariana is a web designer freelancer, and she had the time to join us almost every day. We stayed at her place 3 days, then we visited Yucatan, and then we came back and stayed another 4 days.

One day we were at Playa del Carmen. It is very touristic, the only advantage is the very fine sand, and the water is very clear.

We saw a Mayan tradition: el rito de los voladores (in some places, it’s 37 m high). We say that the Mayan didn’t know the wheel, look what a device they had developed. Actually, they did know the wheel, but didn’t use it because it was the symbol of the sun.

We went several days at the beach in Puerto Morelos to see the corals. The last day, we went snorkeling. We had to pay a boat to get to the reef, because it is protected. It was amazing, the water is just pristine with beautiful exotic fish, a lot of corrals and we saw a marine turtle!!! At some point, it started to rain like cats and dogs.

Every evening we ate very good and cheap in Puerto Morelos: ceviche, salbutes, natural exotics fruits juices, jamaica (hibiscus flower juice), horchata (rice milk with cinnamon)… There are a lot of activities. Each weekend day there is something happening.

We saw a very good circus spectacle of an Argentinian group.

As in all Mexican villages, there is a sport arena where people gather.

If I tell you that you can buy a house for 15.000 $ what do you say ? Are you in ? The only thing is that in November the temperature is perfect, of the sea and the air, but in the summer, it is often above 40C.
